Tara Pitt was a contestant on Australian Survivor (2017) – a game that is considered the hardest and most unpredictable to win out of all the reality television contests.

Tara managed to last the entire 55 days and finished second in the finale, having survived extreme weather conditions (including a cyclone!) never ending rain and the intense social game play.

It is understandable people would question why Tara, a stay at home mum of three young boys, would apply to be a contestant for a realty television show. It is extraordinary to discover Tara applied for Survivor to ‘find herself’ after the tragic news of her father passing.

Tara shares real lifetime events from her schooling to present in a personal and light presentation “Chapters of Surviving Life”. She gives insights into her experience of reaching adulthood, becoming a wife and a mum, and her darkest chapter – the death of her father. Tara explains the grief she experienced and how her dad’s suicide changed her life forever. Her dad took his own life in August 2016 after suffering with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for 20 years as a consequence of his service with the Australia Army.

Tara who also suffers from anxiety and depression, talks openly and generously about mental health and what she went through to ‘yank’ herself out of her own grief. Tara has a passionate belief that is important to increase awareness about mental health and suicide prevention so that anyone who needs support can find support. She has discussed this topic on television shows such as Studio 10, and during her time on Survivor. She is a regular guest on radio and speaks on R U OK Day.

Along with her amazing story, Tara brings humour and is relatable to all her audience. ‘What is your next chapter?’ will leave you all thinking of the next move in your life.
