Kate Bay is the professional alias of singer-songwriter Matilda Duncan, an accomplished musician whose journey began at just sixteen, playing paid gigs while finishing school in her hometown of Townsville, North Queensland.
Known for her soulful vocals and dynamic performances, she quickly became a staple in the local music scene, playing up to 10 hours of live gigs each weekend before turning eighteen.
Now based in Melbourne, Kate has expanded her reach, performing at some of the city’s most iconic live music venues, including Grazeland, Republica Bar, and Morris House. With eight years of experience she has honed her craft across a diverse range of settings, from intimate weddings and high-profile corporate events (NRL, WNBL, Council & State Government engagements) to packed-out dance floors and laid-back sunset sessions.
In 2023, she was selected as the resident musician at InterContinental’s exclusive Hayman Island Resort, where she entertained guests in one of Australia’s most luxurious destinations.
Beyond her live performances, Matilda has released five original singles under her own name, earning support from Triple J and ABC Radio with national airplay, playlist rotation, and touring opportunities. Her original work has led her to share stages with renowned artists including Thirsty Merc, Vera Blue, Katie Noonan, Ruby Fields, The Rubens, and Kim Churchill.
Kate Bay is a versatile and engaging performer, capable of adapting to any event or atmosphere. While she is best known as a solo acoustic act, she also offers customisable band configurations, including an acoustic piano duo, a versatile trio, or a high-energy four-piece pop-rock band.
