Transforming Sydney’s Village High Streets Through Live Entertainment
A City of Sydney case study demonstrating how strategic programming increased visitation, supported local businesses and brought neighbourhood precincts to life.

The Brief
Twice a year, the City of Sydney transforms village high streets into vibrant, pedestrian-friendly spaces.
Across Sydney Streets Series 2–5, local roads were closed to traffic and reimagined as community zones filled with live music, outdoor dining, games, roving performers and family entertainment.
Enhance Entertainment was engaged to curate and deliver the entertainment program across seven village precincts, creating a flexible, high-quality program that reflected the character of each location.
The goal was not simply to place performers in the street. It was to help create atmosphere, movement, discovery and a reason for people to stay longer, explore further and connect with local businesses.

Every Sydney Streets event was unique. Rather than delivering the same entertainment program across every location, Enhance curated performers, musicians and interactive experiences that reflected the character of each village precinct, supported local businesses and encouraged visitors to explore further.
Curating Each Precinct
Enhance created a diverse precinct activation program combining live music, roving performers, First Nations artists, DJs, children’s entertainment and interactive experiences.
Live Music
Live bands, musicians and DJs created atmosphere that encouraged visitors to stay longer, support local businesses and enjoy each precinct.
Roving Entertainment
Roving performers, character acts and visual entertainment brought movement, surprise and interaction that encouraged visitors to explore every precinct.
Community Experiences
Family entertainment, creative workshops and interactive experiences created welcoming public spaces where people of all ages could connect, participate and belong.

Every Sydney Streets event was unique. Entertainment was carefully programmed to reflect the character of each neighbourhood, encouraging people to wander, discover local businesses and spend more time in the precinct.

Delivering at Scale
Across Sydney Streets Series 2–5, Enhance managed one of the City’s major entertainment programs.
We engaged, contracted, briefed and paid more than 100 performing groups for each series, ensuring artists were prepared, compliant and ready to perform on schedule.
Our work included developing draft and final entertainment programs, managing artist fees within approved budgets, scheduling performances and breaks, coordinating props, costumes and instruments, and providing post-event reporting.
Operational Excellence
Large public events succeed when the operational detail is right.
Enhance provided Experienced Stage Managers, artist logistics, WHS documentation, risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements, online inductions and Working With Children Check compliance where required.
Our team also managed performer logistics, on-site communication and practical event support to keep each activation running smoothly.

Each Sydney Streets location had its own rhythm, audience and local character.
Rather than repeating the same entertainment in every suburb, Enhance worked with the City of Sydney to curate performers suited to the unique atmosphere of each village street.
The program prioritised diversity, cultural richness, early-career performers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, mobility, audience interaction and family-friendly engagement.

Why It Worked
Sydney Streets worked because the entertainment was programmed with the place in mind.
Live music supported dining areas. Roving performers created movement. Family activities encouraged people to linger. First Nations and culturally diverse programming reflected the richness of the City’s communities.
