The Brief
The City of Sydney’s Christmas program brings festive experiences to some of the city’s most visible public spaces and local neighbourhoods.
The entertainment needed to do more than decorate the season. It had to create genuine public moments, support the character and function of each location, welcome broad and diverse audiences, and operate confidently within busy streets, parks, retail precincts and civic spaces.
Enhance was engaged to program and manage live entertainment across a suite of interconnected events, while maintaining consistent quality, artist care, safety and City alignment across the entire season.

One Season. Many Ways to Experience It.
Sydney Christmas is not one event repeated across different locations. It is a connected program of experiences, each with its own audience, rhythm and relationship to place.
From intimate community choirs to a spectacular city-centre parade, Enhance helps bring Sydney Christmas to life through programming shaped for each place, audience and moment.
The program stretches from Sydney’s civic heart into its local neighbourhoods, encompassing large-scale spectacle, city-centre activation, staged family concerts, street-based discovery and nightly community performance.
Our role is to make those experiences feel both distinctive and connected: creatively ambitious, welcoming to diverse audiences and supported by the systems required to deliver safely across multiple sites.
The format may shift from a choir beneath the city lights to a parade moving through packed CBD streets. The standard of thinking, care and delivery does not.
Five Programs. One Connected Celebration.
Enhance applied one program-wide approach while shaping each experience around its audience, location and role within the season.

Opening Weekend
A three-day city-centre activation launching the season through roving music, visual performance and unexpected encounters across high-traffic CBD locations.

Santa Parade & Tree Lighting
A precisely coordinated journey from Customs House to Martin Place, building towards the countdown, fireworks and lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.

Christmas Concerts
Free local celebrations bringing staged family entertainment, Santa, live music, roving acts and participatory experiences to Sydney’s neighbourhoods.

Choirs in the City
A nightly December program placing community voices beneath Sydney’s iconic Christmas trees and giving choirs of different ages, cultures and experience levels a highly visible city platform.

Christmas Street Fairs
Place-led precinct celebrations where live music, roving performance, choirs, creative participation and local street life reward exploration across the evening.
Program for Place
Each part of Sydney Christmas demands a different creative response. Fast-moving retail zones call for bold, immediate encounters. Parks allow audiences to settle into staged programs. Open streets reward curiosity and movement. Iconic civic spaces require scale, visual clarity and precise timing.
Rather than applying one formula everywhere, Enhance considers how people use each location, how energy should build and what kind of live moment belongs there.
Design the Audience Journey
Programming is paced to create contrast, encourage circulation and sustain engagement. Roving performers animate arrivals and transitions. Choirs offer intimate pauses. Headliners and live bands create shared focal moments. Participatory activations give audiences a reason to stop, make and connect.
The goal is not simply to fill a schedule. It is to shape how the public experiences the place over time.
Building Towards Sydney’s Christmas Moment
In the city centre, programming is designed as a journey.
Opening Weekend begins the public shift into the festive season, using music, movement and visual surprise to animate locations such as Pitt Street Mall and Martin Place. The programming responds to each zone: energetic and immediate in fast-moving retail areas; slower, more theatrical and visually expansive around the city’s major Christmas landmarks.
The Santa Parade and Martin Place Tree Lighting takes that sense of anticipation to its peak. Entertainment begins at Customs House and Martin Place before the parade brings Santa and the Lord Mayor through the CBD. Seven cycling elves, elevated characters and the 85-piece Millennium Marching Band create visibility and momentum along the route, timed to arrive for the Lord Mayor’s address, countdown and lighting of the 25-metre tree.
The challenge is not simply assembling an impressive cast. Every element must contribute to the same emotional arc: arrival, anticipation, movement, spectacle and celebration.
One City, Locally Tuned
Sydney’s local Christmas events are not smaller versions of the CBD program. They are designed around the way each community gathers.
The Christmas Concerts create welcoming focal points in local parks, balancing family headliners, live music, roving entertainment, Santa and hands-on activity across the evening. Programming continues beyond the stage: roaming musicians and performers support transitions, encourage movement towards food and activity areas, and keep the broader site alive during breaks.
Street fairs require a different rhythm. Rather than drawing everyone towards one stage, programming is distributed through the precinct. Choir corners, bands, roving characters, craft and play create multiple points of discovery, encouraging audiences to move, explore and linger.
The result is a Christmas program that feels connected across the city without feeling generic: each neighbourhood retains its own personality.
Where Sydney Sings
Choirs in the City places community members at the heart of Sydney Christmas – not only as audience members, but as performers.
Across December, community, cultural, intergenerational, youth and semi-professional choirs perform festive repertoire in the city centre. The program has included everything from traditional carols and gospel to jazz, soul and multilingual music, reflecting the diversity of the city itself.
For some singers, appearing beneath the Martin Place tree is a major annual highlight. For passers-by, it can be an unexpected pause in the city: a familiar song, a gathering crowd and a moment of connection in the middle of December.
The Care Behind Community Participation
The Choirs in the City delivery model is light in infrastructure but substantial in care. Groups arrive ready to perform acoustically, often without conventional backstage or warm-up facilities.
Enhance manages the expression-of-interest process, curation, scheduling, detailed performer communication and onsite stage management, supporting ensembles with widely different levels of public-performance experience.
The same principle extends across Sydney Christmas: performers may range from major headliners and professional spectacle acts to school ensembles and community members. Each needs clear information, appropriate support and the confidence to contribute fully to the public experience.
Making Complexity Feel Effortless
Sydney Christmas involves multiple sites, overlapping schedules, high public visibility and performers ranging from major headliners to first-time community participants.
Enhance provides the calm structure behind the experience.
“Across all events, Enhance Entertainment have been a great partner, consistently delivering high-quality services that have significantly contributed to the success of our events.”

Why It Worked
One Creative Thread
Each event had its own identity, but the program shared a consistent commitment to joy, inclusion, quality and a distinctly Sydney sense of place.
Different Places,
Different Answers
Programming responded to audience movement, site character, time of day and the purpose of each event instead of applying the same formula everywhere.
Strong Systems
Behind Live Moments
Experienced programming, artist relationships and detailed operations made complex delivery feel warm, spontaneous and welcoming in public.
